Jacob Liscow founded Clearbrook Farms in 1924.
Obviously the business was quite different then. We started by making fruit fillings for Dolly Madison Bakeries. As the business grew, the company provided fruit fillings for manufactures of cookies, doughnuts, pastries, turnovers and fruit pancake syrups. The next generation of the Liscow Family, Stanley Liscow, Mimi Liscow and her husband Jerome Cohen, decided to make special batches of the family's favorite preserves. The preserves were not for resale; they were made only once a year, at the holidays, as gifts for family, friends, and business associates. This is when our family business made a commitment to buying the best fruit possible from family-owned farms.
We have always used only USDA Grade A fruit from the best growing regions in the United States. We call our preserves "old-fashioned" because fruit is always the first ingredient, followed by pure cane sugar, fruit pectin, and citric acid. Our preserves have never been made with corn sweeteners or artificial colors, flavors and preservatives.
Jacob's grandchildren, Dan Cohen and Andy Liscow were persuaded by the preserves' fabulous reviews and intense demand to make our private stock available for local sale. A special French canning jar was chosen to draw attention to the new brand. And, it's an attractive environmentally friendly container to reuse! Clearbrook Farms preserves soon caught the attention of some of the nation's finest gourmet food providers, including Dean & Deluca, Balducci's and Bloomingdale's after we attended our first fancy food show in 1980.
We are even prouder that hundreds of our original clients are still selling our products today. Over the last 30 years, Clearbrook Farms has continued to expand its delicious line of products to include preserves, fruit butters, and desert sauces.
Share in the family tradition that's Clearbrook Farms!
